Friday Feast - An Ode To Baseball Stadiums
You know, I was thinking. In less then a week now several men from Michigan and Pennsylvania will be uniting in our annual Pilgrimage. This summer traditions started in August 1998 with two men, a rented Taurus and two tickets to a Cubs' game in Chicago. Eight years (and several cities) later this years decagang will be embarking on Orioles Park At Camden Yards in Baltimore. In honor of this year's Pilgrimage I want to share my top five favorite baseball stadiums of all times.5 - Tiger Stadium - This historic turn of the century park is the first ballpark that I ever went to as a kid and will always have a special place in my heart. No flash and glitter like some newer parks but the memories of the sights and smells that were there will last a lifetime.
4 - Yankee Stadium - The house that Ruth built. This wonderful classic stadium has to make the list! You can just feel the history and the spirit of the game when you go there. You can just feel Ruth, Gehrig and Mantle when you are sitting there.
3 - Wrigley Field - Without a doubt my favorite of the older parks that I have seen. The ivy on the outfield wall with the city skyline in the background just scream baseball. If you ever get the opportunity to go to Wrigley, jump at the chance.
2 - Comerica Park - When they built this park they really did a first class job. As much as I loved the old stadium, this one really has class! A fantastic view of the city above the outfield, great dimensions and unobstructed views no matter where you sit. I usually will get to attend about four to six games a year and would always love to do more.
1 - PNC Park - This has quickly become a Pittsburgh landmark. After dining in downtown Pittsburgh all you need to do is walk across the bridge and you are there. The views of the city and the layout of the park are the best that I have ever experienced! Whoever built this park really knew what they were doing. A must see for any avid baseball fan.
In the next few years I will be seeing several other ballparks that might just bump something off of this list but for now I can easily say that these five parks are my favorites! How about yours? I have only been to 3 parks ever but I'll list those!
3. Dot com park, I'm still a little bitter about baseball taking on naming rights...
Most of you know this park as Comerica..
2. Riverfront Stadium...back in the late 80's .saw the Reds / Mets

1.Tiger Stadium...If you have never seen a game here you missed something special...
I am going to limit my favourites to those stadiums where I have seen the Cleveland Indians play in person.
Umpteenth...Cleveland Municipal Stadium. My childhood field of dreams, saw the 1983 All star game there. Donna said of it.."The pigeons won't even roost here".
10. Atlanta Fulton County Stadium. Horrible place. Glad they blew it up.
9. Old Busch. They fixed it up pretty nice after they built the TWA Dome. Nice long rain delay when the Tribe played there in 1997.
8. Riverfront. All lot like above only in Cinci.
7. The Ballpark in Arlinton. I think the Indians won. It was hot.
6. Comerica. It's too big for so few seats.
5. Camden Yards. Still the nicest of the new parks.
4. Tiger Stadium. Worth driving from Cleveland to go to a game there.
3. Yankee Stadium. I hate the Yankees, but a great stadium.
2. Fenway. WOW, now this is baseball. Roger Clemens beat Gaylord Perry 2-1 in May of 1987. The previous night we saw the Piston/Celtic playoff game where "Bird stole the ball"...
1. Wrigley. nuff said...

After July I will have been to all of the above mentioned stadiums. Having been to only two other stadiums (Jacobs Field & New Comiskey), I could safely say that these five are the tops of my visited list as well.
Looking forward to hitting Fenway very soon!
