Another Thinking Thursday

You know, I was thinking. We are on the brink of the first summer holiday weekend of the year. I know that there a many things that our family does on Memorial Day but I don't want to forget the important stuff. Granted I love the golfing and the BBQ and having a ton of family and friends together, but this holiday is about more than that stuff. My dad was an army veteran who trained troups and I do have an uncle who is still alive that was there on D-Day in France. These two men put it all on the line for me to enjoy the freedoms that I have today. I don't take any of that for granted. They are not the only ones either. I remember a few years back when a bunch of us went and toured Valley Forge and the next day visited ground zero in NYC! Talk about bringing the past and the present together! Both of those visits will stick with me for the rest of my life. This year I will have the privilege to go and tour Historic Gettesburg and I am truly looking forward to that.
The old saying that "all gave some and some gave all" still holds true today. Anyone who has ever served in any of the armed forces whether in war time or peace deserve to be honored. I would like to personally thank everyone who has ever said "sleep well Doug, I've got you covered tonight".

Here is my tribute to them:

As I live and work and breath, I know that I live in freedom
Men and women are watching over me to keep me safe tonight
While some may protest and call them names, yet I will throw no stones
For God made some of us businessmen, while others He gave the call
To go and fight for this great land, all gave some and some gave all

I take this life for granted and my freedoms that were won
I don't always give the thanks to those who decided to go and fight
They live in tents and shacks and mud to sleep among the groans
While some stand firm and hold their ground and some of them may fall
When on the battlefield they will brothers band because all gave some and some gave all

Many wars are won and battles lost based at our God's desire
He is the one that bless them all by the light of day and dark of night
As the soldiers are trained with sweat and blood and moans
I want to stand up amongst them now to thank them one and all
I for one will recognize til my last breath I take that all gave some and some gave all

God bless each and every veteran out there and for everybody, be blessed beyond belief today!

Great post. Reminds me of a song....

Artist: Billy Ray Cyrus
Album: Some Gave All

Some Gave All
I knew a man called him Sandy Kane
Few folks even knew his name
But a hero was he
Left a boy, came back a man
Still many just don't understand
About the reasons we are free

I can't forget the look in his eyes
Or the tears he cries
As he said these words to me

All gave some and some gave all
And some stood through for the red, white and blue
And some had to fall
And if you ever think of me
Think of all your liberties and recall
Some gave all

Now Sandy Kane is no longer here
But his words are oh so clear
As they echo through out our land
For all his friends who gave us all
Who stood the ground and took the fall
To help their fellow man

Love your country and live with pride
And don't forget those who died
America can't you see

All gave some and some gave all
And some stood through for the red, white and blue
And some had to fall
And if you ever think of me
Think of all your liberties and recall
Some gave all

And if you ever think of me
Think of all your liberties and recall, yes recall
Some gave all

Some gave all

I don't like country, but I know the lyrics to that entire album. It's one of my all time favorite CDs.

Tommy and I even went to see him at the fair during that tour. If I remember right, I think Tommy threw his shirt up on stage or something...
